At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

Now go forth, and into a world of Pokémon!]

[Honestly, she hadn't recognized any of the options that'd been provided to her but... hey, free Pokémon. She's not going to complain.

She grabbed one at random from the options (Ralts, Pumpkaboo, Larvesta) and ended up with a Larvesta. So now she's kind of crouched down, poking at the little critter and studying it. Whatever this mystery bug-type is, it's certainly cute! At least she thinks it's a Bug-type.]

What is that?

[Interrupting Nik time!]

Beats me. It was in one of the Pokéballs that were in front of me when I got here.

[Hi, Nik. Alessa's not even sparing you a glance as she pokes at the Larvesta a bit more... Until it climbs onto her hand and up her arm at least.] My Pokédex didn't turn up any data on it, either.

Hmph. Whatever it is looks more useful than this thing. [And out comes... a magikarp. That looks like Nik's already kicked it.

~~any takers on Angry Gyarados Rampages when it evolves?~~] Worthless and useless thing.

[~~... Yeah, that's not gonna be pretty.~~]

That "thing" is called a Magikarp. They're a little difficult to train properly, but the hard work should pay off in the end when it evolves. [Good grief, Nik with a Gyarados. That's a slightly worrying mental image.]

It evolves into a Gyarados, smart-aleck.

SCORE! [Oh dear. His eyes have lit up like it's christmas come early.] It better hurry up then. I don't want a stupid useless pokemon forever.

[Nik, please don't kick your pokemon. What did it do to you?]

Don't be an idiot, Nik. Gyarados are aggressive and destructive by nature as I'm sure you know. And I wouldn't be surprised if they held grudges for mistreatment.

[He won't! ... Maybe.] I know how to keep a pokemon under control and not spoil them.

Whatever. I'd say lets battle, but I don't want to humiliate you. [... or himself BUT WHATEVER. He might be post-game but... GSC. What is learning to be a better person?]

[Who can say no to free Pokémon? This guy earlier had to pick from unrecognizable babymons, Azurill being one of them.]

[She offers a friendly wave.] I think I have! This one right here. [She nods to the Larvesta.] It doesn't look like any Bug-type I've seen before.

[There's a whistle from him, before taking a look.]

I've never seen one before either! That's cool! Got any names for it, yet?

Not yet. I don't know a lot about it, so I don't really have any ideas.

Makes sense ta me! I'm Jiro, by the way. You?

[He's reaching back to give scritches to Azurill.]

Alessa. Nice to meet you, Jiro. Do you know where this is? [She'll scoop the Larvesta up into her arms and stand. The Larvesta crawls up her arm and onto her shoulder.]

[Pulling his hand back, Jiro crossed his arms while nodding and grinning.]

Nope! Never been here before in my life!

[...well he sure looked happy for being lost.]

I gotta admit this place is pretty chill so far.

That makes the two of us. It is pretty nice.

[Thoughtfully:] I guess this calls for some exploration.

Hey I'm game! It's not like I've got anything better to do now that we're stuck here.

[He's grinning while lifting his Azurill up and into his arms.]

Maybe we'll run into more new Pokémon along the way!

[As an afterthought: Ah, I should probably let out the rest of my team, they'd appreciate the fresh air...

[He's stepping on a convenient stone while dramatically pointing forward. Jiro glances over followed by a grin.]

...heh, that's plenty nice of ya.

[That gets a shrug. It's pretty normal for her, but who knows how it is for anyone else.

... So, Jiro, enjoy the sudden crowd consisting of a Typhlosion, a Togetic, a Hitmontop, an Umbreon, a Dragonite, and an oddly colored (read: shiny) Raichu.]
