At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

[...He's pretty sure that these are not his fellow Smash fighters crammed into pokeballs, but he can't help but stare at these pokeballs anyway. He has a special strategy for the three Pokemon he already has, so what would be the point of taking any of these guys? What would he even call their final move, "Quadruple Finish"? That doesn't seem to have as nice of a ring to it...]

[You've got a girl stage-whispering to you while her Meganium is trying to pull her away with his vines. Don't bother people, Lyra, why are you always into people's business--!]

[Well, she hopes so anyway. She can't really get a good look with the situation like it is.]

[He looks at Jigglypuff for a moment as if almost considering it...before he then looks towards Lyra's Pokemon as if just noticing now and points to it.]

That's a "Meganium", right? [One of those Pokemon from Johto, wasn't it?]

Mmhmm! His name's Sprouty.

[Sprouty sets his trainer down with a sigh, and she's eager to check out the balls.]

Oooh, I was so right. Jigglypuff's awesome! Choose it, choose it!

[...He's not sure. On one hand, he actually likes the Jigglypuff that would jump into the arena to fight sometimes. Used to feel a little bad about fighting her...but then he stopped feeling bad after that one time she put his Pokemon to sleep and then sent them flying back at him.

On the other hand...]

...But I already have three Pokemon. [Would that be bad to be taking another one that could have gone to someone who doesn't have any yet?]

[... Oh. Is he one of those types? Okay.]

Then... I guess it'd be okay to leave them, or see if someone else wants them. They're all good Pokémon! So! I'm sure it'd be fine!

[Maybe they'll even leave you alone. Let you leave them. Maybe.]

[Hm. He doesn't really feel comfortable with the idea of just leaving them there, but he doesn't know anyone here that he would give them to. Decisions, decisions.]

Yup! A Magikarp. Her name's Fishy.

[See? Look into her magical Pokéball, ooooh, it's a Magikaaarp.]

Why did you pick a Magikarp?

[Another non-believer!!]

Because I wanted to! Other than evolving into Gyarados, I wanted to be able to show others that Magikarp itself isn't useless. [Kiss!! The ball, yes.] Besides, she was the only one I was interested in. The others were a feisty Seadra and a pretty fish called a Milotic.

Oh. [Yeah, Gyarados is pretty cool. Seadra wouldn't have been a bad choice either (it evolves into Kingdra right?) and Milotic...uh...]

What does a Milotic look like?

It's a really long, really beautiful Pokémon from Hoenn. Sprouty made friends with its first form, Feebas, and I was able to evolve one with care. The difference between it and its evolved form are like night and day!

It looks like an interesting Pokemon. [Guess that makes sense to pick Magikarp then if you already had a Milotic...?]

[That'd be a smart move if she didn't already have a Magikarp and Gyarados already registered, honestly...]

Totally! Besides, I'll probably meet those Pokémon again sometime. That's just how things work, right? Fishy'll be reunited with her pals one day.

Oh. [Did she release those Pokemon somewhere or were they being kept at home? Hm.

...Also he's beginning to realize that they've been talking for a little while and he still doesn't know who she is.] What's your name?

I'd have a really, really hard time too! [Because because because Jigglypuff is cute and Pikachu are cute and ... She doesn't know the other one, but it looks like something a boy would find super cool. She finds it super cool too, actually!] Do you know what that one is? I've never seen it before!

[Pointign to Lucario.]

[Oh, you might be on to something, Blue.]

...That's a Lucario. They're a fighting-type Pokemon, I think.

[Or at least the Lucario he knew was definitely a good fighter in the arena, holding it's own against his Pokemon or even when fighting people like Mario and the like...]

[Oh... A fighting-type, huh. Blue thinks of the other fighting Pokémon she knows (Mankey, Primeape, Poliwrath, Machop, Machoke, Machamp, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan), then nods smartly.]

I think Lucario and you would make a really great team!

[Cool-looking and probably strong. Totally alike. Nailed it.]

Really? [Hm. That could be interesting, having a Lucario to fight with more than just primarily against one...

...at the same time though, he's kind of hoping that the Lucario he knows doesn't suddenly show up and blast an Aura Sphere at him for having another Lucario doing the fighting for us.]

But it's your choice or not! I don't know if we have to choose one either [but she did, because finally ¡¡ being a pokémon trainer !! is her life's one true dream and wish and hope] but it does say please...

I didn't have the same choices you did... [Huff! She's probably pick Pikachu if she did.] Mine were a cute little girl Nidoran, a Bulbasaur, and an Ekans!

[She chose Bulbasaur!! Because her new trainer friend suggested it to her.]

Oh. [...] I had a Bulbasaur, but it's since evolved into an Ivysaur now.

[Nidoran is kind of cute, while Ekans...well, there's probably someone out there who likes them and isn't just a member of Team Rocket.]

[Blue liked Ekans! She just... was reassured that she'd be able to meet an Ekans again one day in her Pokémon Trainer future. She's gonna have one, the cutest little girl with a snake. Yeah.]

After that it's Venasaur, right? I can't wait! [She's never owned a Pokémon, or trained one or anything

but she knows all about them from... from... she doesn't remember how, but she knows all 150 of them!

(Minus Mewtwo, who is an abomination. Shhh.)]

Yes, that's right. [He nods, actually smiling a little more now.] They're good companions to have.

[Maybe someday his Ivysaur will evolve into a Venasaur, but for now it seems content the way it is at the moment.]
