Welcome/Welcome back, you crazy diamonds!

[An island! This is most certainly not where everyone was just a few moments ago. ...Alright, maybe some of you were on an island. Don't get cheeky.

At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

Now go forth, and into a world of Pokémon!]

[You know, normally, he'd be running around the island, yelling some sort of nonsense and trying to figure out where he is, but right now what has his attention are the three Pokéballs he's been presented with, each holding a Pokémon he's never seen before.

... So does he choose the Piplup, the Oshawott, or the Froakie...]

[All water-types, huh? That's okay! May had all electric-types to choose from. Actually, she still has the three trailing her... because she couldn't quite figure out which one she wanted, and just wanted to walk with them a little to see how they'd take to the rest of her team.

Naturally, most of them are pretty okay. Marshtomp's a little wary, but he's half-ground! He'll get over it.]

Wow, what a bunch of cute Pokémon you've got to choose from! [Her Dedenne, Pichu, and Elekid pack are nothing to sneeze at either, but.] Piplup, Oshawott, Froakie... They're all water-types!

[...of course the professor's daughter would be somewhat more up-to-date on Pokédex upgrades.]
fakeemerald: For someone like me, it's only natural! (10)

[Well, naturally!

May's also getting a huge smile from this idiot as she walks over!]
They are all quite interesting! I'm not entirely certain which one I should pick! You have an interesting set to choose from as well, it seems!

... Although... [He motions to the Dedenne.] I cannot say I recognize that one.

[Let's see, what did she learn...]

It's called a Dedenne, and it's a dual type Pokémon! Electric and fairy, the second of which has just recently been put up as solid fact instead of just speculation by Professor Augustine Sycamore, the Kalos region's Pokémon expert!

[How does it feel to like a total nerd, Brendan Emerald. She's really so excited over this.]

Actually, a few of Hoenn's Pokémon have been reclassified as fairy-type as well! There's Ralts and its evolutions - except Gallade, I think it's stayed a dual psychic and fighting-type - and Mawile... Marill's line, including really cute Azurill, too!

[No, seriously, she's kind of a nerd.]

[Hey, the nerd thing is cute 8(]

Is that so? [His Azumarill's a dual-type and he didn't even know it until now!] How does this new "Fairy" type match up against the others then? [This is a very, very important question, okay.]

[SHE GETS TO TALK MORE

ahhh]

Well, not only is it super-effective against Dragon-type Pokémon, it's completely resistant to Dragon-type moves! It's also good against Dark-type Pokémon and Fighting-type Pokémon. You'll have a tough time against Steel and Poison though, since both of those are super effective against it.

[...and it's not very effective against fire either, and bug's not very effective against it. But these are its main points!]

Isn't that cool!

[ Ooh well she recognises the Oshawott and Piplup (kind of) but the frog thing remains a mystery. The only reason she's still interested is because Oshawott was her own starter.

Never mind a small girl looking slyly from one side. ]

Ah! Fair maiden! Do you have any idea what these three Pokémon are? [Ah, the joys of being a Gen III protagonist.]

[ Oh she's never been called a fair maiden before... She blushes and smiles sweetly. ]

Well, sir, the bird is a Piplup, and the otter is an Oshawott. I haven't met the frog before, though, they seem to all be water types. [ She pulls a pokedex out of her labcoat and tries registering the Froakie, but nothing comes up. A small sigh. ] Sorry I can't help.
