At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

Now go forth, and into a world of Pokémon!]

[If he wants to try and take her on, her hands are already drifting towards her Pokéballs. She's ready. She has that Pokémon from this stupid place, after all...]

[...You know, Powder Snow's pretty cool and all, but uh.

That Slugee's a fire type.

The smog sucks for a moment, but at least the snow blows it away. Still, his Dino's shaking her head back and forth afterwards- something's definitely wrong...]

[Bingo. Just what she was counting on. And now that she's seen Powder Snow --]

Ember! [Yep, sure thing --]

[The Ember hits her! ...Neutrally. Her rock typing covers that, and this time she hits the Slugma with Thunder Wave.]

[Ooh, Slugee doesn't like it. Crystal bites her lip, because she really doesn't have anyone who can avoid Thunder Waves.

Whatever, it's fine. A quick glance at her Pokédex first, and then she'll stop throwing fire at it like Gold would. Time to get a little smarter.]

Rock Throw. [Slugee can't find any rocks, so he'll make some of his own -- here you go, tiny dinosaur! He'll follow it up with a neat little Ember, which Crystal crinkles her lip at because she didn't tell you to, Slugee, don't show off...]

[Yeah, Amaura isn't enjoying this. She wants to go back into her ball or stay down, but she should try to impress...

...Oh, she's being sent back. Okay.]

Rock Blast, Rhyhorn!

[It's time for Rocks in quick succession! Rhyhorn even recycles the rocks that Slugee threw. Get your punk ass out of here you dumb pile of lava goo.]

[Returned! Darn. Crystal gives the Pokéball a quick smile, then tosses out her Squirtle. She's got one hell of an advantage over the ground-specialist's son, unlike her step-brother.

He immediately retreats into his shell - tactical decision, not cowardice, and only pokes his head out when Crystal gives the order:] A no mercy Water Gun!

Get out of the way, Rhyhorn!

[Nope. He tries, oh he does, but he's not swift and he's pretty easily knocked back and into Silver.]

[Heh.]

Who's next? [Squirtee ducks back into his shell, waiting, and Crystal smiles. She's not going to get all arrogant just for beating two of his Pokémon, but... She can reward herself with a little pride.]

But she doesn't have time to waste it on him, does she? If he's here - and she's here - then there's a chance Gold's here, too, and perhaps her two totally wonderful moms and Green and Professor Oak (swoons).

She has to find them and figure out what to do.]

You're lucky that I don't have the time to keep playing with you. [She's not Gold! She isn't, she's nothing like that stupid brat!] Keep my step-brother busy if you see him, all right? He's worse when he doesn't have anyone to occupy his time.
