[An island! This is most certainly not where everyone was just a few moments ago. ...Alright, maybe some of you were on an island. Don't get cheeky.

At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

Now go forth, and into a world of Pokémon!]

[Turns around and- whoa big green Pokemon he's never seen before. Hello, big green Pokemon. He waves up at it before getting around to answering Lyra's question.]

[She'll helpfully slide off her Meganium and crouch down to the balls, not even looking at them before pressing the little button on their balls to let them out.]

A Spritzee, a Zubat, and a Swirlix jump out of the balls (apparently it doesn't count as one being picked if someone else opens them). The boy is completely distracted from Sprouty and staaaares. He looks at the balls. Then the Pokémon. Then back at the balls.

POKéMON. POPPED OF THOSE TINY LITTLE BALLS. ~~~MAGIC~~~.

Have you really never seen it like this before? You're young so I won't tease you, but that's such a cute reaction! I just wanna pinch your cheeks!

[Thankfully, she's being held back from doing just that by Sprouty's vines.]

[Blinks and pauses. What, is this supposed to be normal?? He shakes his head.]

They should not fit. How did they get in?

[Rocks are one thing, but tiny little red balls with buttons are another entirely, okay. He'd want to play with the vines too, but those fluffy pink Fairy types are distracting him.]

[Sprouty only lets her go once he's sure she won't cause trouble. Lyra looks at her Meganium, then takes out the ball she NEVER EVER USES that's actually his. It's pretty new looking since, well, it's unused.]

Um, that's a really good question. Sprouty's usually my only companion and he's out and about because of my local Professor's request so I don't really know.

[So basically, ~~MAGIC~~. Okay then. He stares curiously at the girl's ball for a moment before turning back to the three little Pokémon. Oh, right, there's a more important question than "how".]

Why were they inside?

To keep them safe from the weather and rogue Pokémon! I have to bundle up Sprouty during the colder seasons since he's become so use to the outdoors, and even though he doesn't mind the rain a lot of other Pokémon wouldn't like it... Rogue Pokémon can be scary too, if they're looking for a meal and yours is an easy target.

[Sprouty shudders slightly - he remembers all too well the trials of a Chikorita, with birds of prey swooping in. Brr.]

Plus it's easy to carry them around.
