[An island! This is most certainly not where everyone was just a few moments ago. ...Alright, maybe some of you were on an island. Don't get cheeky.

At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

Now go forth, and into a world of Pokémon!]

[Brendan's minding his own business until he sees sight of a VERY familiar trainer. OH NO, ABORT. ABORT MISSION-]

... what do you have there?

[Except oops, he can't ignore unrecognizable Pokémon.]

[Brendan barely gets a glance and a nod of acknowledgement before she turns back to the two Pokéballs in her hands.]

... I'm not entirely sure. I've never seen either of these little guys before, and they're not turning up in the Pokédex.

[She doesn't realize how much internal relief he's feeling at her bare minimal acknowledgement.]

Hmm, they're not turning up on mine either.

[He has his own Dex out just to prove a point.]

You better take your time. You can only take one, right?

That's what the note said. I wonder what kind of places these two came from... [She's looking between the two some more before she glances back over.]

Say, just out of curiosity, what Pokémon were offered to you?

[Brendan's moving closer to peer at the Pokémon. One he recognizes but the other two...]

Huh? It's some fossil Pokémon. I'm not sure what it's called exactly...

[He'll hold out a Pokéball containing his newly acquired Tyrunt.]

[She'll turn away from her three to look at the Tyrunt.] That's pretty cool.

... I might go with the one with a flower. I think it might be a Grass-type? Although the other... Hmm... It's a difficult decision, especially when I know so little about both.

I thought so too. It might be a Rock type, but I'm not sure...

[He'll mutter before putting away his Pokéball to where it's safe. He looks between the two options while gesturing to Deino.]

Judging by coloration alone, there's a possibility this is one's a Dark type...

Well, if it's a fossil Pokémon, that would be pretty likely.

[She nods, thoughtfully.] ... I may end up running into the one I don't choose later on while I'm here, so there's always that to consider...

That's true, we don't know a thing about this place's ecology either.

[He's back to staring down at them. If that's the case he definitely looked forward to catching, and studying more Pokémon.

With that thought in mind, Brendan's gaze is now trailing towards Elena.]

... ...say, weird question but, uh. You're Terra aren't you...?

Exactly. Though, as we stay here, I suppose we'll find out.. [She glances over, shaking her head.] Ah, no. My name's Elena. Why do you ask?

N...no reason.

[He muttered while looking away. He should be feeling relieved, but at the same time he couldn't help feel embarrassed.]

You just...looked like a...- a neighbor of mine.

... Ah, I see. How coincidental. You look exactly like one of my neighbors.

[A thoughtful hum as she turns back to the Pokéballs.] I think I'll go with the one with the flower. [And so the Deino and Duskull's Pokéballs vanish.]

Some exploration of this place might be in order.

[That's TOO much for Brendan to take as just a "coincidence". Now it only causes his nervousness to flair up again.

JUST WHAT ANGLE IS SHE GOING FOR....]

Yeah... I think I'm going to go keep walking around myself. I wanted to see what sort of Flying Type might be passing by through here.

Would you mind if I tagged along? [A pause.] Or maybe we should split up. We'd be able to cover more ground that way and we could share information later, if you want.

[Either option meant seeing her regardless. Brendan sighed, shoved his hands into his pockets before giving a shrug.]

...sure you can tag along. Maybe you might notice something I miss.

All right. Let's get going, then. [She'll start walking on ahead, letting out a Manectric that's more than happy to trot along beside her.]

[There's an internal sigh of relief from Brendan, before he follows along. He can't help but glance down to her Manetric. He's a little wary seeing a Pokémon out like this but chose not to comment on it.]

Do you remember what you were doing before you ended up here?

I was on my way to Fortree City! I'd just started heading up Route 119. What about you?

I was doing some research back on Route 110. Although being sent here doesn't hamper my progress. Not when I can get a good look at different types of Pokémon.

No kidding... [She hums thoughtfully.]

Hey, you want me to take notes on the little one I ended up with?

[Without warning he comes to a halt, and stares at Elena.]

You...what? I mean, uh, sure. If you want to, that would be a huge help.

I mean... I might as well, right? It'd be nice to take a break from challenging the gyms and stuff. I'm sure my team would appreciate it, too. [She chuckles when the Manectric gives a bark of confirmation.]

[There's a look of unbridled joy.]

Thanks! This means a lot, Elena! You and your team will be a huge help I'm sure of it!

We'll do our best!

[She'll fall silent for a little while afterwards, though.]

[Well Brendan doesn't seem to mind. He's already distracted himself with a notepad and pencil out. He seems to be scribbling notes about the environment so far.]

Hmm fascinating, I recognize some of the plants from Hoenn growing around here... so does that mean we're still close to home?
