At everyone's feet is a small note. It gives no description of their location or explanation, of course; it only says one simple thing.

Please choose one.

The note comes along with three Pokéballs with different "starter" Pokémon in them- the three Pokémon can be anything, from a Froakie, Charmander, and Treecko to a Rattata, Patrat, and Bidoof if you're particularly unlucky- and everything in between. If it's not a legendary Pokémon, it's fair game.

Of course, you can only pick one! Trying to go for a second will leave you thinking that you better not get too greedy. If you're one of those types that wouldn't care either way, the other two Pokéballs will simply disappear.

Now go forth, and into a world of Pokémon!]

...What the heck are these? How is she supposed to pick when she can't even tell what they are? Alright Pokédex, help her... out...

[Those are some odd looking Pokémon for sure. Red tilts his head at them, then at the Quilava at her side.

That's a funny looking Pokémon, too. Wow.]

You can tell a little bit about them by looking at them. [Sorry he's kind of quiet. Friendly, but quiet!] The first has leaves, so it's a Grass-type, the second... Might be part Poison- or Flying-type? Like Zubat. And the last one reminds me of a Raichu.

[So Electric. But that's just his opinion. And stuff. Educated guess based on looks. And experience. Yeah.]

[Like Zubat. Okay! Guess that one's out, then. It must be all over the place over here. She'll just catch one herself!

She holds the grass type... thing... And the raichu lookalike next.]

You know a lot about Pokémon, huh? I thought it looked kinda like a grass type, but I wasn't sure.

They're both really cute... [And she has less electric types than she has grass types, so maybe... But the other one seems pretty sturdy and might do better with her team...]

Why don't you let them both out and meet them yourself? I'm sure you'll be able to decide like that.

Out come the weird grass thing and pretendy raichu! The Zubat thing looks a little disappointed, but hopes its buddies will get picked anyway.

The Raichu lookalike waves at her with its tail! ...The grass thing immediately comes to rub its head up against her and try to nestle at her feet.]

[It's okay, Zubat thing, you can swarm her in a cave or something. That's what you do, right? Right.]

... It seems like that one's chosen you. [Cute little pretendy Raichu though, Red can pet you a little. You're weird but nice feeling.]

Oh, um... My choices weren't the same as yours! [Huff. She would've definitely, definitely had chosen...

Nidoran, Bulbasaur, and Ekans were the three I got to choose from. It was really, really hard, but I picked Bulbasaur. It was recommended!! Since I can catch Nidoran and Ekans myself!

Ooh, a Bulbasaur! A grass type!

In that case, I'll pick a grass type too! [They can be grass buddies! She grabs the ball for the weird Stantler thing and lets him out. Her out? Guess she'll find out.]

[Grass buddies! Blue lets out Bulbasaur too, both mimicking Kris and trying to remember how she was shown. It's not that hard, and Bulbasaur immediately ducks behind her legs.

He's a shy little plantmonster, okay. Blue crouches so she can pat her shy bulb and giggle.]

Come on, Bulbasaur! It's okay! Don't be so worried! [But no trainer you don't understand it looks like it eats plants --] It's a grass type, just like you! You two can be friends, just like me and... uh... Me and her!

[Friends? ...Yeah, friends!] Exactly! You won't eat him, right Buddy?

It looks like Nidoran and Raichu did a fusion dance. Or something else that's tiny and cute, but it definitely looks a lot like a Raichu.

[Man she wants a Raichu. Raichu are so cool. Too bad she couldn't find a single Pikachu in all of Johto...]

...It looks more like Pikachu and one did that. Raichu are overrated anyway.

They're both really strong electric types! I've seen lots of trainers with great Pikachu. [But Raichu are so big and great and strong and reliable and cool and...] I just like Raichu better. Besides, I'll need Raichu for my Pokédex anyway.

...Oh? Are you trying to fill it up? { Also, Have a tail wave from Pikachu.} You'll have to find one, and we can have a battle of electric mice.

You got it! Getting badges and beating up Team Rocket just comes with the territory.
